
Semple, Grant, & Benario Awards
The Subcommittee on the Semple, Grant, and Benario Awards is pleased
to announce the winners of its 2009-10 competition.
- The Semple Award is a $3,500 fellowship for attending the summer
session of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens
- The Mary A. Grant Award is a $4,500 fellowship for attending the
summer session of the American Academy in Rome
- The Janice and Herbert Benario Award is a $2,000 fellowship that
the recipient may apply to the summer travel program of his or her
choice
Recipients of these awards must be current members of CAMWS
who either:
- currently hold teaching positions in Greek or Latin in an elementary
or secondary school in the CAMWS territory (click to see a map);
or
- are enrolled as graduate students in a degree-granting program in
Classics in the CAMWS territory

- Semple Award: Ted Gellar-Goad (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), to attend ASCSA Summer Program
- Mary A. Grant Award: Kristina Neumann (University of Cincinnati), to attend AAR Summer Program
- Janice and Herbert
Benario Award: Mary Jo Behrensmeyer (Mount Vernon High School, Mount Vernon, OH), for the Vergilian Society's "Alexander the Great from Troy to Gordion/Issus" program
