CAMWS CONVENTION INFORMATION

104th Annual Meeting
Tucson, Arizona
April 16-19,2008

The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) will hold its 105th Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, beginning on the evening of Wednesday, April 1, 2009, and ending on the afternoon of Saturday, April 4, at the invitation of the University of Minnesota. All sessions will be held in the Marriott City Center Hotel except those on Friday afternoon, which will take place on the University of Minnesota campus.

Temperatures in Minneapolis in early April range from 20o to 60o F., and snow is possible; it will be warm and dry, however, inside the skyways that connect many downtown buildings.

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

A margarita-punch reception in the Marriott, 8-10 p.m., on Wednesday, April 16, will open the meeting.  Between Thursday morning and Saturday afternoon there will be 52 paper sessions and 16 panels on a variety of pedagogical and scholarly topics, plus a happy hour for graduate students, and special events sponsored by the Vergilian Society, the Women's Classical Caucus, SALVI, and SORGLL.  Friday's schedule will include a double-barreled presidential panel in honor of Greg “The Virginian” Daugherty on “Classics and the American Western: Making Film, History, and Myth.”  After the Friday-afternoon sessions a reception in the University of Arizona Museum of Art will be hosted by the Dean of the College of Humanities.  Friday evening's banquet in the Marriott will be followed by a reception on the hotel's outdoor patio.
